INSPIRATION

Red Grandis Embrace the future of sustainable luxury with Red Grandis, a high-performing plantation-grown hardwood available at Design One Source that is rapidly reshaping the architectural lumber market. As the design community actively seeks ethical alternatives to dwindling supplies of wild-harvested tropical woods like Genuine Mahogany and Spanish Cedar, Red Grandis emerges as the superior solution. Ideally suited for a diverse range of interior and exterior applications, this 100% pure Eucalyptus grandis species is sourced exclusively from responsibly managed, FSC-certified plantations in Uruguay. These forests are cultivated on former pasturelands, meaning that every board of Red Grandis contributes to carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration rather than deforestation. This makes it one of the most environmentally responsible hardwood choices available today, perfect for projects pursuing LEED certification or simply aiming for a lighter ecological footprint.
Aesthetically, Red Grandis is prized for its remarkable consistency and elegance. It features a continuous, straight grain structure and a uniform color palette ranging from pale pink to a warm, light reddish-brown. Unlike wild tropical woods that can vary wildly in color and grain from board to board, Red Grandis offers a harmonious look that simplifies color matching. Its natural hue serves as an exceptional canvas for finishing; it accepts stains, paints, and clear coats with ease, allowing it to mimic the look of more expensive species like Cherry, Mahogany, or even Walnut. Whether you are aiming for a deep, traditional gloss or a modern, natural matte finish, Red Grandis delivers a premium, furniture-grade appearance that elevates any joinery project.
Beyond its beauty, Red Grandis is engineered by nature for performance and workability. With a density similar to Mahogany and a Janka hardness rating of approximately 881, it strikes the perfect balance between durability and ease of machining. Millworkers and carpenters favor it for its ability to hold crisp edges and intricate moldings without splintering or tearing. It is dimensionally stable, resisting the warping and twisting that can plague other hardwoods, which is critical for precision applications like custom windows, doors, shutters, and exterior trim.
Durability is another hallmark of this species. Red Grandis is naturally resistant to decay and fungi, boasting an expected lifespan of 30 years or more in exterior environments, even without extensive chemical treatments. It also carries a Class B fire rating, adding an extra layer of safety to residential and commercial structures. Its versatility is unmatched—equally at home as durable exterior siding and decking as it is in fine interior cabinetry and molding. By specifying Red Grandis from Design One Source, you are choosing a material that offers the prestige and performance of a premium hardwood while upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship. It is the smart, sustainable, and sophisticated choice for the modern builder who refuses to compromise on quality or ethics.
